In 1999, the Department of Design was established within the Faculty of Applied Arts at the National Institute of Fine Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod. Since 2001, the department has been offering, for the first time in the republic, an educational program in “Fashion Design.” Over time, this field has developed into an important educational center for training highly qualified specialists in the field of fashion design.

The main objective of the department is to train competitive specialists with strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills, capable of creative thinking, by integrating national and global traditions of fashion design with modern technologies. To achieve this, students develop skills in creating fashion design concepts, designing collections, selecting materials and color combinations, as well as developing design projects using modern graphic and digital software.

Currently, the department provides training at both bachelor’s and master’s levels. The educational process is organized on the basis of a credit-modular system. The department offers the following core subjects: fashion design, composition and color theory, design project development, garment technology, clothing construction, history of fashion and contemporary styles, design methodology, fashion illustration, design of headwear and accessories, computer-aided design, creative design, and fashion marketing.
