The educational program “Museology” began its activity in 1997 and, since 2001, has functioned as an independent department.

Leading scholars were involved in the educational process — including academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan U. Islamov, M. Iskhakov, and others — which had a positive impact on the development of the academic field. Furthermore, with the participation of Associate Professor Umida Nabievna Kagarova, Senior Lecturer Farida Nabievna Rabieva, Professor and Doctor of Technical Sciences Darmanjon Turayevna Kuryazova, and other faculty members, curricula and programs were developed for specialized courses such as “Numismatics”, “Heraldry”, as well as regulatory documents. Currently, about 30 professors and lecturers teach students at the department.

In the field of museology (expertise in museum objects, conservation and restoration), the following professors and lecturers are engaged: U. Alimov, S. Kayumov, D. Khamidova, N. Sodikova, B. Madaminov, I. Babadzhanova, and others.

In the field of museology (museum management and cultural tourism), the following professors and lecturers are active: Professor, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences U. Karabayev; Professor, Candidate of Art Studies Z. Rakhimova; Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences D. Kuryazova; Acting Professor, PhD in Art Studies K. Nishanova; Professor, PhD in History M. Mukhamedova; Acting Associate Professor, PhD in Art Studies N. Khasanova; Acting Associate Professor, PhD in Art Studies L. Jabbarova; Associate Professor Ch. Ganieva; Acting Associate Professor Sh. Kasimova; and senior lecturers of the department: G. Amankhodzhaeva, F. Khasanova, and instructors: F. Turgunova, U. Bozorboeva, and others.

In the field of conservation and restoration of ancient written sources, the following professors and lecturers are engaged: Associate Professor, PhD in Art Studies M. Abdullaev; Associate Professor, PhD in Philology O. Madalieva; and instructors: B. Khodzhayeva, Sh. Karimov, and others.

The development of professional skills of undergraduate students majoring in “Museology” (expertise in museum objects, conservation and restoration) is focused on studying the storage and restoration of artworks, assessing their artistic and historical value, preparing them for storage in museum collections after exhibitions, researching, examining, and evaluating each object using modern technical equipment to prevent the risk of forgery replacement at exhibitions held outside museums and abroad.

The development of professional skills of undergraduate students majoring in “Museology” (museum management and cultural tourism) is aimed at studying issues such as general theory of museology, history of museums and museology, current state and prospects, tourism development in Uzbekistan, promotion of historical monuments, pilgrimage sites, and protected natural areas at the local level, attracting foreign and domestic tourists, creating tourist programs such as cultural-historical tourism, and developing management skills in the field of cultural and museum tourism.

The development of professional skills of undergraduate students in the field of conservation and restoration of ancient written sources focuses on studying their attribution, conservation, and restoration in libraries, archival collections, and all research institutes and museums where ancient manuscripts, lithographic books, and historical documents are preserved.

The professional activities of master’s degree holders in the specialties of museology, conservation, restoration, and preservation of historical and cultural heritage objects include: museums of various profiles, exhibitions, galleries, research institutes, cultural and educational institutions, art publishing houses, radio and television, as well as work related to commercial activities.
