In 1961, the “Book Graphics” department was established within the Faculty of Fine Arts. A significant role in its formation was played by Academician Shirovsky, who worked at the Beijing Academy of Arts and became the first head of the department.

In 1997, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Institute of Fine Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod was established.

According to the decision of the Academic Council of the institute dated July 4, 2005, the departments of “Calligraphy and Miniature” and “Book Graphics” were merged, resulting in the creation of the “Miniature and Book Graphics” department. In 2022, this department was divided into two — “Graphics” and “Miniature and Calligraphy.” In 2024, they were merged again, and the “Miniature and Book Graphics” department was reorganized.

The department offers both bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, and the educational process is carried out by highly qualified academic staff in accordance with state educational standards.

The main goal of the department is to train highly qualified artists in the fields of easel and book graphics, calligraphy, and miniature art. The educational process develops the traditions of Eastern and world graphic, poster, and miniature art, while forming skills in compositional solutions and artistic expression. Another priority is to prepare creative professionals capable of producing competitive book and printing products in line with modern requirements.

The department offers the following disciplines: drawing, painting, color science and fundamentals of composition, materials science of graphics, materials science of miniature art, composition of graphics, composition of miniature art, artistic solutions in graphic and miniature composition, book design, work in material in graphics and miniature art, traditional styles in graphics, traditional and modern styles in miniature art, dynamic representation of artistic images, methods of artistic editing, model-making, poster art, calligraphy, Old Uzbek script, book art, applied graphics, manuscript studies, history of miniature art, as well as CG art.
