About the Department
Since 1959, sculpture at the institute began to develop as an independent field of study. Within this direction, many prominent figures of art and experienced sculptors worked, sharing their knowledge and expertise with students. Among them are Pyotr Panfilovich Chelishev, Ulugbek Mardiyev, Anvar Kamilovich Ahmedov, Anvar Abrorovich Rakhmatullayev, Vitaliy Vasilievich Vanyakin, Tulyagan Tadjikhodjayev, Abdumumin Baymatov, Viktor Malakhov, Ravshan Tursunovich Mirtojiyev, Kamol Jabbarov, Bayat Pulatovich Mukhtarov, and Rustam Ermetov. These masters carried out effective pedagogical activities at the institute over many years.
A special place among the teaching staff is held by the institute’s own graduates. Among them are Anvar Abrorovich Rakhmatullayev, Ulugbek Mardiyev, Tulyagan Tadjikhodjayev, Ravshan Tursunovich Mirtojiyev, and Ilhom Jabbarov, who studied at this institution and later continued their teaching careers here.
Graduates of the I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Saint Petersburg also made a significant contribution to the development of the sculpture field. In particular, Anvar Kamilovich Ahmedov (1965), Abdumumin Baymatov (1986), and Kamol Jabbarov (1999), after graduating from this prestigious institution and returning to their homeland, devoted many years to the development of sculpture at the institute, passing on their knowledge and experience to the younger generation.
In 1991, the institute was named after Mannon Uygur and became known as the Tashkent Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts. From 1986 to 1998, the scientific-methodological and organizational work of the sculpture direction was led by Abdumumin Baymatov.
In 1997, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, I.A. Karimov, the National Institute of Fine Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod was established. It became an independent higher education institution on the basis of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Initially, the “Sculpture” program operated within the Department of Monumental Painting.
In the Republic of Uzbekistan, particular attention is given to the modernization of the education system and the training of highly qualified, competitive specialists who meet modern requirements. In order to effectively implement these objectives, with the permission of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and based on the decision of the Academic Council of the institute dated May 30, 2003, the “Sculpture” program was separated from the Department of Monumental Painting and established as an independent department.
The department offers the following disciplines: drawing, sculpture, composition of monumental sculpture, work in material in monumental sculpture, decorative sculpture, architectural consultation, artistic metal casting, and small-scale plastic forms in monumental sculpture.
